Teaching our kids to T.H.I.N.K. (& a free printable)

Last week, the kids and I had a serious talk.  We were having our morning devotions together and reading a lesson through the book of James.  Love that book!  The book and our lesson, challenged us to consider our words and how we use them towards each other.  The power of the tongue can lift up or tear down. It's such a small part of our physical body, yet it can do so much damage.  Why is it so easy to allow the words that come out of our mouths to be so harsh- especially to those in our own family- those we love the most?    In light of all we were learning that morning, we decided to challenge ourselves.  We decided to T.H.I.N.K before we speak a word.

Tips and Tricks Tuesday- Fall Inspiration

Fall has officially arrived here in Denver.  We've been enjoying unusually high temperatures for this time of the year, but today it cooled down quite a bit and rained a little.  I took the time to enjoy some tea and cookies with my daughter.  She had milk instead (not a tea girl yet), but I  cherish these indoor times together.   I also love the changing of the seasons and colder weather.  It gives us a new beginning in so many areas of our lives.  So thankful for new beginnings.

Today, Tips and Tricks Tuesday will be a little different.  I've been busy getting my Fall Table, Fall Wreath, and Fall Mantel together, so I thought why not give some Fall Inspiration.

Rustic Sophistication- Fall Mantel

I love my fall mantel!  LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it! I've had something in mind for the mantel for a while now, but I wasn't sure how my ideas would play out in real life.  Sometimes things look better in my mind than they do in reality, but this fall mantel came out just like I wanted.  It's my favorite mantel of all time.  True- I've only decorated a few, but who's counting.  Of course, I'm a wee bit bias to my own work, but it is in fact, the exact look I was going for, with of course, a budget to match.  My total cost - $3.  Honest. I'm calling this rustic sophistication.

My Fall Wreath for under $5!

You all know I love decorating, making things beautiful and festive, but I'm a thrifty girl too!  I want  to save money but make my house sparkle and shine too!  It's can be challenging at times, but I truly believe with a little time and creativity, we can get our homes "magazine cover" beautiful, even on the smallest budgets.

Earlier this week, I showed you my Fall table for under $10.  Today, I'll show you my Fall wreath.  I put it together yesterday, and I did it for just under $5.

Fall Table for under $10

Have you heard?  It's FALL!  I don't think the weather knows that quite yet. We're still experiencing some pretty warm weather here in Colorado, but Fall is I've been told.  I know pretty soon here we'll be getting that crisp fall air; the leaves will be turning bright orange, and the ovens will be turned on for pumpkin bread, pumpkin muffins, and my favorite- pumpkin pie!  I can't wait!

I'm getting ready for fall this week starting with my dining table.  I took a trip over to the Dollar Tree to see if I could get a few things and make a table centerpiece and "tablescape" for under $10.  I like challenging myself like that, but I also want it to look good, not cheap.  You know what I mean, right? Anyway, I think I pulled it off, and I did it for a total of $9!  What do you think?

Simple Solutions to Paper Clutter

I've been irritated lately.  Do you ever get to a point where you've looked at a space for a long time and you know it's disorganized and messy, but you'll get to it...someday.   If you're like me, you can handle it for a while, but then there comes a point where not another minute can go by until you've "fixed" it.  In that moment, you will find a solution- any solution.  That was me this week.  This was my solution to a messy space.

A Simple Way to Clean the Microwave

Hello! Hello!  It's been a very busy week here in Lewisville.  We've had this and that and that and this.  You know what it's like with kids, pets, classes, lessons...this and that.  It's the mom life, my life, and I'm blessed to be part of this show!

So this post is coming out a little later in the day, but I promised you I'd give you the scoop on a simple way to clean the microwave. Yesterday, I gave you the scoop on how to clean your oven with my own version of a non-toxic oven cleaner.  Today's cleaning tip is also non-toxic, as in not harmful for you or your family.   I don't remember where I first learned, read, or heard about this method of cleaning the microwave, but I've been doing it for years.  It works wonderfully and it's super simple.

Non-toxic oven cleaning

This last week, I've been deep cleaning my kitchen.  I was inspired by A Bowl Full of Lemons who has a kitchen challenge going on.  I'm not really taking part of that challenge, but after reading her post about her beautifully organized and clean kitchen, I woke up the next day and scrubbed my floors.  I'm talking on my knees, scrubbing, and sweating, but in the end, it was so worth it.  My floor needed it and the family was pretty impressed.  Points for the mama!  The next day I rearranged and organized the cupboards and counters; then the next day I cleaned my oven and microwave.  That's what this post is all about- cleaning your oven using a non-toxic method.  I love when I'm inspired to clean, and so does my family.

Look at those floors!
